Our pup, Hooper, was brought in for emergency care after finding him partially paralyzed at our house.  The emergency center determined that Hooper had slipped a disk in his back causing the paralyzation.  Being only three years old at the time of his injury, my husband and I agreed that surgery was the best option.  Hooper underwent a Hemilectomy in December 2021 in hopes to be able to walk on all fours again.

After his surgery, Hooper was referred to Dr. Furutani and the rehab team at Mililani Mauka Vet Clinic.  Hooper started rehabilitation in February 2022.  He was in for a long and intense rehab journey.  Hooper joined MMVC for a combination of acupuncture, exercises, hydrotherapy, photobiomodulation, and shockwave.  All completed to rebuild his strength and endurance, as well as restore feeling in his hind limbs.

The experience of such an immense trauma that Hooper had gone through was incredibly overwhelming for the whole family.  His entire lifestyle needed to be adjusted.  The MMVC rehab team was nothing but helpful, knowledgeable, and understanding of our situation.  They were able to explain “the why” behind certain difficulties Hooper had in his day-to-day life.  The rehab team gave us tips as to what we can do at home to better his rehabilitation journey. And, ultimately, peace of mind that he was in the best hands.

It’s been over 3 years since joining MMVC for rehab.  Hooper has improved leaps and bounds from being unable to use his hind legs to now walking, running, hiking, swimming, and taking on the stairs again!  We are incredibly happy with the progress Hooper has made!  Thank you Dr. Furutani and the MMVC rehab team for your  hard work and dedication to restoring his quality of life! We will be forever grateful!
