Dr’s. Shah & Miyashiro are certified veterinary acupuncturists who provide an alternative to pharmacological medical treatment. In some cases, the best results are observed when acupuncture is incorporated with western medicine in a multi-model approach. Acupuncture can be the sole treatment for ailments such as osteoarthritis, intervertebral disc disease, and chronic pain. It can also be used as an adjunctive therapy to complement medical management of liver disease, renal disease, chronic vomiting, appetite loss, and post-operative pain. Acupuncture can be used for virtually anything and has little to no adverse effects or contraindications.

ACUPUNCTURE

Canine rehabilitation is the remediation of impairments caused by trauma, deficiency, or aging through physical intervention. Our certified canine rehabilitation therapist, Dr. Jamie Furutani, may recommend treatment including manual therapy (massage, range of motion, joint compressions), therapeutic exercises, LASER therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, acupuncture and hydrotherapy. Our goal is to stimulate functional ability and promote quality of life.

CANINE REHABILITATION

Photobiomodulation, also known as laser therapy, is a non-invasive and pain-free treatment modality that utilizes focused light energy to stimulate healing in your pet's damaged cells. This therapy helps reduce discomfort by enhancing blood circulation to the affected area and promotes faster recovery by activating the body's natural healing processes. PBM can be effectively used to address a wide range of conditions, including musculoskeletal issues, wounds, and dental concerns. Common applications include:

  • Arthritis, hip dysplasia, and intervertebral disc disease (IVDD)

  • General pain management (sprains, strains and stiffness)

  • Post-surgical pain

  • Skin problems (hot spots, lick granulomas, otitis, infections)

  • Dental procedures

  • Fractures and wounds

PHOTOBIOMODULATION

Shockwave therapy is a technology that has been available for 30 years and is commonly used as an adjunct to treat both acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain. Despite its name, shockwave therapy does not involve the use of electrical current. Instead, it delivers an audible pulse or sound wave from the machine to your pet’s tissues. This process helps regulate inflammation by promoting the release of nitrogen monoxide, a gas that facilitates vasodilation (the widening of blood vessels to enhance blood flow), resulting in an anti-inflammatory effect. Some conditions that shockwave can treat are:

  • Arthritis

  • Fractures

  • Soft tissue injuries (muscle strains, pulls, tightness)

  • Skin issues (lick granulomas, wounds)

  • Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD)

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a treatment designed to support your pet’s joint health by utilizing platelets and growth factors derived from their own blood to promote tissue regeneration. Your veterinarian will assess and identify the areas that require the most attention. PRP therapy can be applied to treat a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Hip dysplasia

  • Cranial cruciate ligament tears (CCL)

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Acute and chronic soft tissue injuries

  • Tendon and ligament

PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP)

Ultrasound is a non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology which uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs. Board certified radiologist, Dr. Graham Burns (from the Veterinary Emergency & Referral Center in Honolulu), frequents our clinic to perform ultrasounds and give owners immediate results. Dr. Burns and Dr. Ruby Clark are also available for radiographic interpretations (especially for our more puzzling cases.)

ULTRASOUND AND RADIOLOGY

Animal dermatology is a specialized field of veterinary medicine that focuses on diagnosing and treating many issues like skin, ear, hair, nails, infections and allergies.
